This workshop integrates traditional yogic wisdom with the latest research on developmental and contemplative science to offer short and simple tools to promote a healthy classroom climate. You’ll be introduced to classroom-friendly adaptations of asana (yoga poses), pranayama, (breathing exercises), and the yama and niyama (yoga principles) to promote physical, cognitive, social and emotional competencies. Learn a short practice you can use to prepare yourself and get centered for your teaching day. Discover simple evidence-based mindfulness practices that encourage smooth transitions throughout the school day. Learn short yoga breaks to promote healthy posture and foster calm, alert attention. Acquire several Thirty-Second Tools that teachers and students can employ throughout school day to promote well-being and learning. We’ll also look at Ayurvedic tools for creating a healthy and happy classroom. Throughout the workshop, I will also share research findings that indicate that the practices included in this workshop can improve cognitive function, promote stress resilience, and prevent burnout in teachers, as well as foster self-awareness, self-regulation, and social and emotional competencies in students.
